CENTRALPOINT DANCE STUDIOS

Train with Purpose. Dance with Joy.

Centralpoint Dance Studios is a community-focused dance school in Wānaka, offering high-quality training for all ages and abilities. Through weekly Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Ballet and Asia Pacific Dance Association (APDA) classes in Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, Musical Theatre, and Hip Hop—alongside Ready Set Dance, Ready Set Ballet, adult classes, and performance teams—we build strong foundations in technique, musicality, and stage presence. Our experienced team fosters a supportive and professional environment where students develop confidence and a lifelong love of dance.

Statements for each term’s tuition will be emailed to you before the beginning of the term.

Invoices are due in full before the first day of each term unless a payment plan has been arranged before the due date.

All payment plans for term fees will incur an extra admin fee of $2.50 per week until the term fee amount has been paid in full.

A $40 late payment fee will be added to any late payment or payment arrangement that is defaulted on.

Fees are based on an average 8-week term and are calculated over the entire year. This takes into account statutory holidays and exam days and that terms differ in length and some are longer or shorter.

Makeup classes will be offered if the year falls short of 32 weeks.

Students who start class mid-term will be invoiced pro-rata with payment due once their enrolment is confirmed.

Multi-class discount of 10% is applied to dancers or families enrolled in 2 or more classes per week.

Lessons missed will not be deducted.

Credits can be arranged for illness or injuries where a medical certificate is provided.

For students who leave during the term, the fees are non-refundable.

Your enrolments will automatically roll over. If you wish to withdraw from classes at Centralpoint Dance Studios, it is a requirement that you notify the studio in writing.

Find everything you need to know about Centralpoint Dance Studios - Wānaka uniform requirements, from footwear to accessories. This top-to-toe guide outlines what to wear for each dance style and level, helping students feel confident, comfortable, and ready to move in class.

Why Uniform Matters at Centralpoint

A consistent uniform helps instructors assess alignment, posture, and technique more clearly, while also creating a respectful, team-focused class environment. It reduces distractions, supports safe movement, and helps students feel part of the Centralpoint community-whether they are dancing for enjoyment, exams, or performances.

Uniform Guidelines & Presentation Standards

To help every dancer feel confident and move safely, we ask families to follow a few presentation standards across all classes. Hair should be secured neatly off the face (preferably in a bun for technique-based styles) and pinned firmly so it won’t fall during turns or floorwork. Jewellery should be minimal (no hoop earrings, necklaces, or bangles) to reduce snagging and injury risk. Please avoid watches and fitness trackers during class. Clothing must allow full range of motion and students may be asked to adjust or add layers if items are too loose, too short, or restrictive. For hygiene and comfort, deodorant is encouraged for older students and dancers should arrive in clean uniform each week.

Seasonal Layering & Warm-Up Expectations

Wanaka’s weather can be chilly-students are welcome to arrive with warm layers and wear neat warm-ups during the first section of class. Recommended options include fitted wraps, dance knit shorts, leg warmers, or a plain fitted jumper that allows teachers to still see body placement. Layers should be removable once the body is warm and stored tidily in designated areas.

Studio Care, Footwear Rules & What to Bring

Our studios are purpose-built with sprung floors and dance floor laid on top and looking after them keeps everyone dancing safely. Only clean dance footwear is permitted; shoes worn outdoors cannot be used in class. Students should change into dance shoes on arrival and store outdoor footwear neatly in the waiting area. Please bring a named water bottle to every class and consider a small dance bag to keep items together. We recommend having a spare hair tie, a small towel, and any required accessories (e.g., blister care, sweat towel) on hand. For classes with floorwork, ensure feet and hands are clean and free of grit, and refrain from using heavy body lotions immediately before class to prevent slipping.

Purchasing, Labelling & Uniform Updates

Uniform and footwear items can be purchased through your parent portal once you are enrolled. We strongly recommend labelling every item (including shoes) with the dancer’s full name-lost property fills quickly during peak terms. If you’re unsure about sizing, our team can help with fitting advice so dancers can move comfortably and confidently. Uniform requirements may vary by level and performance opportunities, and we will notify families of any updates before the start of a new term or event. If cost is a concern, please speak with us confidentially-where possible we can suggest pre-loved options or practical alternatives that still meet class standards.

Can we trial a class first before enroling?

Yes. First‑time students can book a trial, pending availability. Trials help us assess technique, pace, and style preferences to place your dancer in the right level and group for safe, steady progress. Afterward, we’ll share feedback and next steps.

What should my dancer wear and bring to class?

Until you have your CP Uniform, please wear comfortable, fitted dancewear that allows the teacher to see your alignment (e.g., a leotard and tights for ballet, or a fitted top and leggings for jazz). Hair should be secured neatly off the face. Bring the correct shoes for your style (ballet flats, jazz shoes, tap shoes, or clean sneakers for hip-hop), plus a water bottle. For safety, please avoid jewellery and ensure any long hair is tied back.

How do class levels and age groups work?

Classes are grouped by a combination of age, experience, and technical readiness to support safe progression and confidence. If a dancer is new, we’ll recommend the most suitable level based on their background and how they move in class. As students develop, they are assessed at appropriate points in the year to ensure consistent training, strong foundations, and a positive class experience.

Do you offer performance opportunities?

Yes. We present an informal mid‑year stage showcase to familiarise ourselves with the stage and then work up to a full end‑of‑year production, giving our dancers supportive goals and stage experience. We also perform annually with the NZ Youth Ballet Company on their Wānaka Tour and actively seek additional performance opportunities.

How do I enrol and when do classes run during the year?

Enrolments are completed online and we are happy to help with this and the creation of your Parent Portal. Enrolments are open year-round, subject to class capacity. Our terms are aligned with the school calendar, with new students able to start mid-term when appropriate. If a class is full, we can place you on a waitlist and suggest suitable alternatives.

What are your fees and how do payments work?

Fees vary depending on the length of the class you are taking. Payments are typically billed by term, and multi-class enrolments are factored in to you/your family's account. Full pricing, due dates, and any applicable discounts are provided at enrolment so families can plan with confidence.

What facilities and safety features does the studio have?

Centralpoint Dance Studios operates in purpose-built spaces designed for dancer safety and comfort. Studios include sprung floors to reduce impact, mirrors and barres for correct alignment, and quality sound systems.  We also provide changing and waiting areas, so families have a comfortable place to support dancers before and after class. Our staff are Police Vetted and approved to work with Children. We have a First Aid Trained Teacher on site when classes are running. Our studios are commercially cleaned to ensure a hygienic environment is maintained in our busy studios.

Do you have opportunities for students to assist, train, or develop as teachers?

Yes. We support teacher development through assistant and trainee programs for suitable students who are ready to learn leadership skills and class support practices. These pathways help dancers build responsibility, communication, and a deeper understanding of technique and teaching, guided by our experienced instructors. Briony is an Approved Mentor for the Royal Academy of Dance Certificate in Dance Teaching and also an Approved Tutor for the Assistant Teacher Award. We also offer Asia Pacific Teacher Certification options.

How do you support new students who feel nervous or lack confidence?

We prioritise a supportive, positive class environment where students can learn at their own pace. Teachers provide clear guidance, constructive corrections, and encouragement, and we focus on building strong foundations, musicality, and confidence over time. If your dancer is anxious, let us know so we can help them settle in smoothly.

How do performance troupes/crews work, and what is the commitment?

Performance troupes/crews are an extension programme for students who are ready for additional training, rehearsals, and performance opportunities. Placement is typically based on auditioning and technical readiness, commitment, and attitude in classes. Team members are expected to maintain consistent attendance, learn choreography outside of regular class time, and meet rehearsal and performance requirements. We provide clear expectations, scheduling, and any associated costs (e.g., costumes or entry fees) before families commit.

Are exams compulsory?

No. Exams are completely optional at Centralpoint Dance Studios. They’re offered as an opportunity for students to set goals, receive structured feedback, and celebrate progress, but participation is never required to remain enrolled or to advance in class.
