Find everything you need to know about Centralpoint Dance Studios - Wānaka uniform requirements, from footwear to accessories. This top-to-toe guide outlines what to wear for each dance style and level, helping students feel confident, comfortable, and ready to move in class.

Why Uniform Matters at Centralpoint

A consistent uniform helps instructors assess alignment, posture, and technique more clearly, while also creating a respectful, team-focused class environment. It reduces distractions, supports safe movement, and helps students feel part of the Centralpoint community-whether they are dancing for enjoyment, exams, or performances.

Uniform Guidelines & Presentation Standards

To help every dancer feel confident and move safely, we ask families to follow a few presentation standards across all classes. Hair should be secured neatly off the face (preferably in a bun for technique-based styles) and pinned firmly so it won’t fall during turns or floorwork. Jewellery should be minimal (no hoop earrings, necklaces, or bangles) to reduce snagging and injury risk. Please avoid watches and fitness trackers during class. Clothing must allow full range of motion and students may be asked to adjust or add layers if items are too loose, too short, or restrictive. For hygiene and comfort, deodorant is encouraged for older students and dancers should arrive in clean uniform each week.

Seasonal Layering & Warm-Up Expectations

Wanaka’s weather can be chilly-students are welcome to arrive with warm layers and wear neat warm-ups during the first section of class. Recommended options include fitted wraps, dance knit shorts, leg warmers, or a plain fitted jumper that allows teachers to still see body placement. Layers should be removable once the body is warm and stored tidily in designated areas.

Studio Care, Footwear Rules & What to Bring

Our studios are purpose-built with sprung floors and dance floor laid on top and looking after them keeps everyone dancing safely. Only clean dance footwear is permitted; shoes worn outdoors cannot be used in class. Students should change into dance shoes on arrival and store outdoor footwear neatly in the waiting area. Please bring a named water bottle to every class and consider a small dance bag to keep items together. We recommend having a spare hair tie, a small towel, and any required accessories (e.g., blister care, sweat towel) on hand. For classes with floorwork, ensure feet and hands are clean and free of grit, and refrain from using heavy body lotions immediately before class to prevent slipping.

Purchasing, Labelling & Uniform Updates

Uniform and footwear items can be purchased through your parent portal once you are enrolled. We strongly recommend labelling every item (including shoes) with the dancer’s full name-lost property fills quickly during peak terms. If you’re unsure about sizing, our team can help with fitting advice so dancers can move comfortably and confidently. Uniform requirements may vary by level and performance opportunities, and we will notify families of any updates before the start of a new term or event. If cost is a concern, please speak with us confidentially-where possible we can suggest pre-loved options or practical alternatives that still meet class standards.
